Height of the summer… July… year 3

Weeds are blooming and growing wild…. that is the down drill of gardening… whatever tools to use to get rid of them, you still have to kowtow hand pick them out or they’ll come back in double and treble….. But at the same time the good bits are the plants purposely planted in are doing the growing beautifully well too……

All the beans included Borletto beans, Climbing beans and Runner beans are starting producing lots of beans…… the best of all and I like most is the Climbing beans… I just can’t eat enough of them…

CNY – New Year Feast (Year of Tiger) – Year 3

14th February 2010

For  myself; the best bit to celebration any festival is the feast part.  Here comes the Chinese New Year and the seasonal vegetable is the Mooli Radish, they are big, real large pieces on sales from most Chinese Super Market.  I’ve tried to grow at the plot but not as big as they are last year, but I shall try again this year…  The bumper harvest of the Spaghetti Squashes has been in the dinner menu in many time and in many method.  The last squash has been made use in desert too….

Mooli Radish Cake

I have recorded the procedure of how to make the Mooli Radish cake (蘿蔔糕) and like most Chinese cuisine the preparation takes lots to do but the cooking is quite simple… just steam it….

Spaghetti Squash + Pineapple Puff

Discover another version to use all the Spaghetti Squashes, I use my last Spaghetti Squash to mix with pineapple to make up the fillings and sandwiched in puff pastry.  The baked result tasted really yummy….. also the seeds of both Spaghetti Squashes and Pumpkins seeds are my best mate to accompany me for all these winter nights movies watching…

Chinese New Year Dinner

The focus of the photo was not perfect as the sight of the food has been taken over the concentrate through the lens… found that long table is best with western dining while the round table is best with Chinese dining as the dishes of food can be access in all sides….

CNY 2010 feast

Dumplings = Nuggets

Another favourite of using the chives that I have been frozen at week 33 – year 2, was to make lots of dumplings during the CNY, the chives mixed with pork, pawns, Chinese mushrooms and young bamboo shoots as the fillings of the dumpling.  Both soupy and fried version are my top favourite…..

Week 49 – Year 2

11th January – 17th January 2010

A tiny thaw with another snowfall afterward, everything turn white again… dé⋅jà vu or ground hog…. By the look of those berries still hanging on those branches (which I have noticed they were all bare without berries by this time of last few years…) the winter is going strong this time….

Snow Scenes

The snow does really have its attraction and see how it does to my camera….

Mini Pumpkin

We decided to use the Pumpkin, one of my supposed Mini Pumpkins which I have harvested during October last year… have made one third of it into Pumpkins and Carrots soup (my sunshine input)… the rest is going to roast… the seeds are collected either for the coming year grow or for my snacks….

Mini Pumpkin

The soil has loosen up after the thaw so we decided to dig out all the Parsnip… We all feel very pleased for the result of the growth of Parsnips this time especially the first trial… We have made chips, stews and roast Parsnip so far… they are just sweet and tasty … Definitely will grow more this coming year…

Spaghetti Squash Seeds

We had use the Spaghetti Squash too and here are the seeds that I pick out for growing this year and the rest has been roasted to be snacks…

Week 38 – Year 2 (Spaghetti Squashes Gift)

26th October – 1st November 2009

The Halloween has came and gone this year, only have one “trick or treat” knock at the door, in fact these few years has been less and less “trick or treat” at our area, probably the children were now grown up …. they prefer indoor party and have their “trick or treat” among their friends….

Spaghetti Squashes – Gift

Since I have harvested all the Spaghetti Squashes and cannot consume all, the best way is to share with friends who like them and here they go as my gift to Ho’s family…. the pretty bows lift up the appearance…

Feltham First Peas

Sow some peas that grow through winter months, bought this peas from Henleaze Garden centre…. mix the pea with some grits then sow in 2 rows, this is a trick I learnt from others that if there are mice the grits can help save the peas… hahaha …. (the rest of the peas seed I gave to Shirley to try on)…. then I erect the usual pea support and cover with some Tansy leaves for deter pests (suppose this may work)….

Feltham First peas

While I was at the garden centre, bought another pack of garlic and here they are sow at the front bed, since we all love garlic in cooking and that is really eat lot not waste….

Garlic bed 1

My winter Lettuce seems growing fast in this change of season… the 3 lines of Spring Onion which I sow in between has also shoot up too, together with all these weeds…. the saying “good and bad are companion in all” is real true….

Winter Lettuce

Spring Hero

I have not prepare well for this planting, but I have to try on so I put all 10 young plants at bed 3, protect by the half cut plastic bottles and hope to get around to do something about them in later days….
